When peaches are available at the market try this great recipe from Wade Lipsey of Cooking with Bubba, a market vendor.
4 cups peaches, peeled and sliced
2 cups sugar, divided
1 stick butter or margarine
1 cup all-purpose flour (see note)
2 teaspoons baking powder (see note)
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine peaches and 1 cup sugar; set aside for at least 30 minutes. Melt butter in a 13-inch x 9-inch glass baking dish. Combine 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and milk; whisk until well mixed and all lumps are gone. Pour batter over melted butter. Spoon peaches on top of the batter. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
Note: Grandma used Gold Medal flour and Clabber Girl baking powder and so I do too!
